Malaco Mining, a Malaysian owned mining company, recently purchased the old Cape Lambert mine in North West Queensland from Matrix Metals and restarted production of copper cathode in mid-February 2014.
CAgroup had supplied the original anodes to Cape Lambert many years prior. Therefore, although an obvious potential supplier to the re-opened SX-EW plant, CAgroup did still need to compete against international suppliers to win this new supply. Working closely with both engineering and commercial personnel at Mount Cuthbert, an offer was agreed which included the return of old used anodes from the site as part exchange for the cost of supply of new anodes. This is a service which CAgroup is happy to offer to all mine customers and resulted in a win-win for both customer and supplier.
